Information

School Colors are Green and Gold. The Mascot is a brown bear and we are the "LC-M Battlin' Bear Band".

Marching Band:

General Marching Information

The LC-M Band competes under UIL (University Interscholastic League) for general competition. Under some circumstances, however, the band also enters various non-UIL competitions and functions. In 1996-97 the marching band competed at Sam Houston State University Invitational Marching contest. The band also marches every year in the Orange Christmas Parade as well as the Mauriceville Crawfish Festival Parade near the end of the school year. The band also performs at the Little Cypress Intermediate and Mauriceville Middle School Campuses a few months after marching season in order to spark an interest in music. The marching band always competes in the Region X (10) UIL Marching Contest, and every other year, has the oppurtunity to advance to Area E and State Marching Contests.

The Practice Field

Marching Band Practice is held on an asphalt practice field at the South end of the LC-M High School parking lot. It serves as a parking lot and as a practice field. A marching grid is painted in white on the asphalt. There are no additional intentional markings on the field except for pivot points nailed into the ground along all of the yard lines every four 22 1/2-inch steps. Pivot points consist of washers nailed into the ground. Marching Practice is led over a portable loudspeaker system with a headset microphone. The practice field also serves as parking lot during excess crowds for football games and other events. We have a satellite picture of the entire high school area available.

Afterschool Rehearsal

Afterschool Marching Practice usually lasts about 6 hours per week. This is 2 hours under the UIL time limit and is sort of our "safety net" just in case we need that little extra time. Almost all rehearsals are 1 1/2 hours long. Rehearsals start out going from 3:45-5:15 PM, but due to tutorial conflicts, rehearsal time is usually rescheduled right after the "No Pass, No Play" law goes into effect. This is at the beginning of the 2nd six weeks. Rehearsal Time is then changed to 4:00-5:30 PM. The Band NEVER has an afterschool marching rehearsal on Fridays. This is because we have a game on most Fridays, and therefore do not have a rehearsal on the same day.

Class Rehearsals

LC-M High School is on block schedule which is set: ABABA BABAB ...however, band meets every day due to four 30-minute lunch periods. Instead of meeting for an hour and a half every other day, the band classes meet every day for an hour in two periods during the lunchtime hours. Woodwind/Percussion Class is first, then Brass Class.

Concert Band:

General Concert Information

The band is divided into 3 seperate ensembles during concert season. They are the Wind Ensemble (Varsity), Symphonic Band (Non-Varsity), and Concert Band. A fourth ensemble is the Jazz Band, which is open to all accepted marching band members. The Wind Ensemble is the main representative group for LC-M. Symphonic Band holds several other records and competes along side the Wind Ensemble in UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Like the marching band, the concert bands compete in non-UIL activities. Every three years the entire band program takes a trip to the Winter Park, Colorado Ski/Music Festival. It is usually about a 4-5 day trip and the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band compete.

Classes:

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is the primary ensemble at LC-M and meets for an hour every day during the second semester after Symphonic Band. Kevin Stone is the Director. This ensemble performs for Region Concert and Sightreading Contest and every other year, makes a tape to be submitted for UIL Region, Area and State Honor Band. The band always recieves the Sweepstakes rating with the exception of 1 year in the last 21 years. The ensemble also performs at the Spring Concert in May.

The Wind Ensemble holds many afterschool rehearsals as well as required section rehearsals.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is Non-Varsity but still competes at Region Concert and Sightreading Contest. The Assistant Director of Band conducts this ensemble. The band holds an exemplary record and usually receives Sweepstakes at Contest. The band also performs at the Spring Concert in May.

The Symphonic holds several afterschool rehearsals, just like the Wind Ensemble as well as section rehearsals.

Concert Band

The Concert Band performs at the Spring Concert and develops students' skills in band.
