The Little
Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. held its annual
“Prize Patrol” on Wednesday, November 20, delivering over
$14,000 worth of grants to teachers throughout the LCM District.
Eight projects, covering everything from reading to robotics to
environmental science, will be funded by the Foundation.
Those receiving
grants and their schools and projects are: Susan Harsh – Little
Cypress Junior High – Taking Science Outdoors; First grade
teachers of Little Cypress Elementary and Mauriceville
Elementary – Every Class Reads; Myra Sanders, Donna Benefield,
Tanya Gauthier, Virginia Kinsley, and Misty Mott - Mauriceville
Elementary - Interactive Nonfiction Reading eBooks, English &
Bilingual; Sommer Reynolds, Summer Mire, and Carrie Vincent -
Little Cypress Intermediate - Spotlight on Reading…
Comprehension Activity Library; Babs Foster and Beverly Fikes -
Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School - Computerized Baby
Simulators; Laurie Tsuchiya - Little Cypress-Mauriceville High
School - Getting Kids "Smart" with a Smart Board; and Charlette
Roddy – Mauriceville Middle School - Listen Up Promoting Love
for Reading with Digital Audiobooks.
The Foundation has donated
$68,527.05 to LCM
educators since its formation in 2002. Monies for the grants are
generated through various fund raisers, including Building,
memorials, honorariums, Legacy Park, which is being constructed
on the site of the LCM Administration Building, memorials,
honorariums, auctions, and golf tournaments. The next event
planned for the Foundation will be “LCM’s Got Talent,” a
showcase of students and staff. Performances will be February 5,
at Mauriceville Elementary and February 19, at LCM High School.
