This information is provided to notify parents that the LC-MCISD Safe and Drug Free Schools Survey (for students in grades 6-12) contains questions that are intended to provide information for district staff about trends in student behavior.  By identifying negative trends, such as increases in drug, alcohol, tobacco use, or sexual behavior, the district may provide instruction and programs that aim to prevent or reduce such behaviors.

Some questions can be interpreted as asking for information about illegal, antisocial, self-incriminating, and demeaning behavior.  The survey is optional; no student is required to participate.  Parents may request that their children “opt out” of the survey.  For those who choose to participate, every attempt is made to ensure anonymity.  The survey is given in a secure classroom environment in the same manner that a standardized test is given.  Additionally, students record their answers on a scantron form so that their handwriting cannot be identified.  Students are asked not to write their names on the survey or on the scantron answer document.

If the survey is to be administered, it will be administered during the first three months of the second semester of the school year.  If a revised survey is to be administered, the revision will be posted before it is given to students.  Those with questions may contact Missy Jones at the Special Programs Office, 883-6970 (ext.2730).  This survey will not be funded by USDOE funds.
