Competency Levels

Competency Levels were adopted by the LCMCISD school board on April 14, 2003. Entry level will be required of all teachers and paraprofessionals as of Fall 2003.
  • Pre/Post Checklist of skills found in the Brazos-Sabine Connection Modules (www.brazos-sabine.org) will serve as minimum skill set for Productivity Software (Microsoft Office/Outlook/Explorer).
  • LCM CISD will offer staff development opportunities to all teachers during in-service days, summers and after school to assist teachers in attaining the technology competency level that they desire.
     

Entry Level

All LC-M CISD professional and paraprofessional employees will have the following basic technology skills within 3 months of employment.

Competency:

  • Basic Operating System Functions (saving files, creating folders, etc.)
  • Grades & Attendance
  • Internet (email – send/receive & search)
  • Word Processing (Lesson Plans)
  • Network use (logging on, Saving to network folder, printing on network printer)
  • Use of curriculum related software with students

Incentive: Computer in Classroom

Adaptation Level

Teachers employed in the 2003-2004 school year must meet Adaptation Level Competencies by Jan. 1, 2005. Teachers hired after the Fall 2003 will have one and one-half years to achieve Adaptation Level Competency.

Competency:

  • Internet 3 (e-mail – organize mail into folders, attachments, insert objects)
  • Presentation software –Powerpoint/Hyperstudio
  • Word Processing 2 – Desktop Publishing
  • Spreadsheets 1
  • Inspiration – Thinking Maps
  • Graphics

Teach six technology-integrated lesson during the school year that require students to demonstrate skills described in the Foundation and/or Information Acquisition Technology Application TEKS. Submit lessons with example of student work via email to District Technology Evaluation Team.

Incentive: Printer or Scanner or $100 computer supplies (such as ink cartridges for printer)

Technology Inventory - This inventory is a check list that will be used in the testing for Levels 1 & 2.

Integration Level (Optional, but encouraged)

Competency:

  • Spreadsheets II
  • Database
  • Multimedia Presentations
  • Web Pages
  • Using Digital Cameras, Digital Video Camera, Scanners and Data Projector
  • Teacher Portfolio
  • Innovative use of Internet Resources

Teach six technology-integrated lesson during school year that require students to demonstrate skills described in the Foundation, Information Acquisition and Communication Technology Application TEKS and the teacher documents the value added to the curriculum by students using technology. At least one of the lessons uses the criteria of active learning and has a student communication product (paper created using word processor, newsletter, multimedia presentation, brochure, web page etc).
Submit lessons with example of student work via email to District Technology Evaluation Team and schedule observation by member of the District Technology Evaluation Team.

Incentive: Presentation Station (32’ monitor or data projector) and Certificate of Recognition for Technology Integration as funds become available.

Innovator Level

Listed below are the components for mastering Innovation Proficiencies. You will need to finish each one of the components, publish those that are applicable on your web page, and set up a time so you can share its contents and the remaining components with your campus.

I. Web Page

  • Individual web page with general classroom information
  • Unit(s) of Practice
    Develop three technology-integrated lessons that require students to demonstrate skills described in the Problem Solving Technology Application TEKS. These lessons should demonstrate a change in the classroom environment from teacher-centered to student-centered. The lessons should be examples of technology seamlessly integrated into the curriculum and demonstrate the principles of the science of learning. The teacher will schedule observation by member of the District Technology Evaluation Team. At least one unit will implement project-based learning.
  • Links to teacher and/or student recommended websites

II. Classroom visitation by members of the District Technology Evaluation
Team (comprised of an administrator from the central office,and 1-2 members of the Campus Improvement Committee).

III. Sharing Session with District Technology Evaluation Team:

  • Documentation of brainstorming meetings with your Technology Mentor to help create a model for a student-centered, technology-rich classroom
  • Three letters of endorsement indicating technology integration.
  • Reflective writings

IV. After receiving Innovator status, be prepared to:

  • Be a technology integration mentor for campus teachers.
  • Model appropriate copyright use and effective information literacy.
  • Be available to teach staff development courses on the campus and/or district level if needed.
  • Open up your classroom for others to visit and/or videotape classroom lessons for teacher checkout.
  • Participate in district technology related activities and/ or present at district and/or state conferences.
  • Serve on the District Technology Evaluation Team
  • After these three components have been completed, the District Technology Evaluation Team will determine the applicant’s status. If the applicant does not achieve Innovation status on the first try, he/she will be encouraged to continue growing. Keep in mind this is not a pass/fail project. We are looking for continued professional growth, a model for other district teachers, and your commitment to help others achieve this Innovator stage. The names of Professionals receiving Innovator status will be posted on the LCM Home Page.
