About LCMCISD's Proposition A

About Prop A and Its Funding Priorities

Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD will ask voters to consider Proposition A on the November 3 ballot.

Prop A would refinance existing debt incurred for disaster repairs made following Hurricane Harvey. Such refinancing will provide the district with an estimated $1 million in additional operating funds. Without Proposition A, the district would have to pay the existing disaster incurred debt out of its operating budget, which could limit staff positions, student programs, and district-wide upgrades.

Over 96% of the district's high school students participate in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that prepare them for jobs upon graduation. Prop A would fund disaster relief debt payments, allowing the district to use its operating budget for items such as new CTE equipment for students.

Prop A Estimated Impact

Zero Tax Rate Increase

A graphic with text "0 TAX RATE INCREASE".Although Proposition A will appear on the ballot as a tax increase, the district can finance these bonds within the existing tax rate thanks to a new agreement with a local business. School property tax rates are not projected to increase if voters approve Prop A.

About the Over 65 Tax Freeze

A graphic displaying the text "Ages 65 & older, $0 tax impact, over frozen dollar amount"Current homeowners ages 65 and over will not be impacted by the passage of Proposition A. Their school taxes will not exceed the frozen levy amount/ceiling established when the Over-65 exemption was granted (unless improvements or additions are made to the residence).

To have your school taxes frozen, you must file a homestead application with the appropriate appraisal district and be granted the Over-65 exemption.

The most recent legislation passed increases the Over-65 Homestead Exemption to $200,000. Current homeowners aged 65 and older who own a home with an assessed value of $200,000 or less will now see their school district taxes drop to zero if they have filed for and received the Over-65 Exemption.

If you have questions about exemptions, please contact the Orange County Appraisal District.
